I am Shyam Sundar Kannan, a Data Scientist on the AI team at Boeing, where I work on applying AI, robotics, computer vision, and generative AI to challenges across aerospace manufacturing, design, and development.
I hold a Ph.D. in Technology (Robotics) from Purdue University, where I was part of the Smart Machine and Assistive Robotics Technology (SMART) Lab under the guidance of Dr. Byung-Cheol Min. My research interests have spanned robotics, machine learning, computer vision, and computational geometry, with applications ranging from autonomous systems and visual localization to 3D perception.
Over the years, I have worked on a variety of problems—from building and navigating mobile robots to developing perception systems and racing high-speed autonomous cars. I enjoy working at the intersection of research and engineering, turning challenging ideas into practical systems that can make a real-world impact.
With 20+ publications and 800+ citations, I continue to stay engaged with the research community while focusing primarily on applied AI and engineering in industry.
